Will Long continues his series of super limited self released 12”s. ‘Relief And Altruism’ is the third in the series that Long has constructed from reel-to-reel, analogue only recordings all housed on black vinyl in black matte sleeves accompanied by hand written inserts.
After the death of his wife and collaborator Danielle Baquet-Long I was surprised but pleased to hear that Long would be pushing forward with new music under the Celer guise and, from what I can gather from the press release, these small press 12”s are a way of bringing about something positive from a deeply sad period for the artist. Now, if you’re a fan of Celer (as I’m sure you are) then this will no doubt appeal as Long rarely strays from his blueprint of warm, earthy ambient tones that made Danielle and Will a household name in ambient circles.
On ‘Relief And Altruism’ Long primarily works from deep, almost orchestral-sounding synth loops. I’m not entirely sure how he achieves such warm tones without the use of physical acoustic instruments but it’s an amazing feat and one that will keep me soothed and relaxed for many years to come. The attention to detail and immersive quality of his music will always impress. Beautiful stuff.
